Born with Congenital Hypotonia, symptoms- (past) She hated ‘tummy time’ as an infant and never crawled.  She didn’t walk until three pairs of AFO’s, custom orthotic devices,  and over two years old.  She had PT,OT, and Speech services and progressed out of PT at 4 years old.  OT claimed she progressed out at 4 years old and would stop flapping her hands, *she still does it with opening her mouth really open and rigid*.   When we moved states the requirements for qualifying were different and even though she qualified for Preschool intervention through the school district, she didn’t qualify for anything in the new state. She has struggled with reading since she first started school.  Her Kindergarten teacher would take 15 minutes of her lunch break to work with Ashlynn one on one.  She’s had a few teachers since that would work with a small group one to a few days after school on  spelling or math.  Her grades reflect her reading struggles in all subjects.  (Present) She finally after my persistence got an IEP at the end of 5th grade for, ‘Specific Learning Disorder’, to help with reading and math.  She rarely gets a passing grade on spelling tests, takes a lot longer to complete any assignments, and has a hard time retaining information for any tests.

Tests done: MRI, electromyography EMG to check muscle response to electric sensors

She now plays soccer and runs long distance track.  She is still very skinny and still flaps her hands with her mouth open.  She is not being seen for any medical issues. I worry if she has enough muscle tone to have her own children.  I would like to see her not fail different subjects- even in elementary school.   She tries her best in school, and puts in a lot of time with homework.

I had to fight to get her an IEP and it didn’t happen until she was 10 and in fifth grade, K-4th she struggled.  She is failing or getting C- in all subjects as a 6th grader.
She come across socially fine.

Ashlynn has a willingness to keep trying even when things are hard for her.  She is willing to put in extra time so she can get assignments done at school since they take her longer.  She likes to be a part of a team with playing soccer.  She has become a Marvel comics fan and can tell you quite a few details about the various  characters.  She is our sweet Angel!
